A Sideways-Tinged Look at the Santa Ynez Valley

It sounds like the Santa Ynez valley, where the wineries visited in the movie Sideways are located, is a great place to visit.

In this fine article from the San Francisco Chronicle, author John Flinn writes about a visit to the valley, including many of the locations immortalized in the film.

For example, although I'd read that the winery depicted rather unflatteringly in the movie as "Frass Canyon" was really Fess Parker Winery, I hadn't quite realized that the owner was THE Fess Parker, of Davy Crockett/Daniel Boone fame. (Readers under a certain age, ask your parents. Or maybe go rent the movie Davy Crockett--don't forget to check out his young, virile co-star, Buddy Ebsen.)

Or did you know the connection between the town of Los Olivos--home of the restaurant where Miles and Jack have the most incredible wine-soaked dinner of all time with Maya and Stephanie--and Mayberry, home of the Andy Griffith Show?

Or that Neverland Ranch is right nearby?

I thought not. There are lots of other interesting tidbits in the article.
