In Japan, they've come up with a new way to celebrate the release of the Beaujolais Nouveau...bathe in it.
A hot spring spa near Mount Fuji has decided to mark the arrival of the wine (which has become a popular fad in Japan) by pouring 12 bottles a day into one of its open-air pools. Bathers enjoy trying to catch the wine as it's being poured in for a quick slurp. |
| Seiji Sanada, an official at the Hakone Kowakien Yunessun spa, insisted that the Beaujolais bath had real value.
"Wine smoothens the skin and its aroma relaxes the mind," he said.
The company said bathing in wine is "a rejuvenation treatment."
"It has been said that the Queen of Egypt, Cleopatra, loved to bathe in wine," said a company release.
It's certainly a better use for spare French wine than distilling it for ethanol. If you try this at home, remember that the wine is diluted in a considerable amount of warm water...bathing in pure wine might sting a little if you have any cuts or scrapes.
The spa also offers baths containing coffee, green tea, and sake. Bottoms up! | More details. | |
