Cambria Winery Proprietor Barbara Banke and Winemaker Denise Shurtleff will host a special evening of "wine, cuisine and conversation" at Restaurant August in New Orleans on January 31, 2009. For the event, Chef John Besh has designed a special menu to complement the distinct flavors and structure of Cambria's chardonnays and pinot noirs. |
| Before dinner, Barbara Banke will discuss some of the qualities that make the Santa Maria Bench, Cambria's home, unique. Having produced wines from this region for more than 20 years, Barbara will offer her perspective on the terroir of the Santa Maria Valley and recount what it was like to launch a winery in an appellation that was relatively unknown at the time.
During the dinner, Winemaker Denise Shurtleff will recount the extraordinary steps Cambria has taken in the vineyard and winery to enhance wine quality. Over the last two decades, the estate has been expanded, replanted and updated with new clones and rootstocks to take advantage of the unique climatic and geological conditions of the Santa Maria Bench. Denise will relate how all of these steps have specifically impacted the character of Cambria’s wines.
In addition to an extraordinary selection of Chef John Besh's signature dishes, attending guests will be among the first to taste Cambria's new releases from the 2007 vintage.
