[New Orleans]
The 2009 New Orleans Wine & Food Experience will take place very soon! Don't forget to sign up for events NOW. Many events may be sold out already, and others could sell out soon! In particular, you won't want to miss the Royal Street Stroll on Thursday and the Grand Tasting, with two sessions held on Friday and Saturday.

NOWFE is celebrating its 18th year this year. Today, it is nationally recognized as one the most prestigious festivals of its kind and features over 175 wineries and 1000 wines over the 5-day event, which now raises over $125,000 annually for local charities. It's not too late to be a part of this incredible wine (and food) experience!

The 2009 event will kick off on Tuesday, May 19th with vintner dinners in some of New Orleans' most celebrated restaurants, followed by the traditional Royal Street Stroll and Vinola Tasting & Live Auction on Thursday, and culminating with Grand Tastings in the internationally recognized Louisiana Superdome on Friday and Saturday. Joyce Godbold, NOWFE Executive Director, boasts "We have come a long way from our early days in a small hotel ballroom. This year we expect to top previous years' attendance over the Memorial Day weekend."

A Premium Fine Wine Dinner Featuring Chef John Folse
Winemaker Pierre Seillan and his wife Monique, from the Chateau Lassegue winery in Bordeaux, will be at dinner to present their Chateau Lassegue, Tenuta di Arceno and Verite wines.

Begin your New Orleans Wine and Food Experience at one of New Orleans' premier restaurants, where Winery Principals, often the winemakers, are present to share their wines with each course. Chefs and Vintners plan the menus together, ensuring outstanding food and wine pairings. Contact restaurants directly for reservation and payment information. Vinola Tasting & Auction
Tasting: 2:00-4:00 pm, Auction: 4:00-5:30 pm
Must be 21 to enter. Must have a 2009 Wine Glass & Wristband to receive wine & food offerings.

Grand Ballroom, Ritz-Carlton Hotel, 921 Canal Street, $150 per person

NOWFE's premium tasting event is a rare opportunity for 200 wine enthusiasts to mingle with notable winemakers, while sampling elite wines from around the world. The Ritz-Carlton will host approximately 40 wineries, pouring their most revered and highly rated wines (each exceeding a retail value of $75. Featuring sweet treats from Chef Reggie Southerland, Next Food Network Star, Season 2 Runner-Up and the music of "Strung."

Vinola has only a limited number of tickets available, and is usually a sell-out, so don't wait to get your tickets! Vinola will be immediately followed by a LIVE AUCTION featuring the J.Bradley Orchestra.

Royal Street Stroll

A definitive evening event of the New Orleans Wine and Food Experience, which brings together New Orleans' greatest gifts: rare antiques, fine art, live jazz and stunning historic architecture with the world's outstanding wines. Shop the enchanting galleries of Royal Street while experiencing wine offerings at each stop, as live jazz music fills the air. As always, we will be joined by the Krewe of Cork, as they parade down Royal Street.

In partnership with NOWFE, and In celebration of their 60th anniversary, the Hotel Monteleone will fill the 200 block of Royal Street with a carnival-themed celebration, featuring Johnny Angel and the Swingin' Demons, swing dancers, prizes, and 1940's cocktails at 1940's prices.

FEASTival (Inaugural Celebrity Chef Gala) 7:30-10:00 pm

New this year, NOWFE presents its first-ever celebrity chef gala. Don't miss your chance to mix and mingle with some of America's favorite celebrity chefs, including Michel Richard, Marc Vetri, and Neal Fraser as they present signature dishes paired with select wineries in this upscale tasting event. This event takes place on Thursday, May 21, from 7:30pm-10:00pm at Harrah's New Orleans Theatre.

Eat Like a Pig: Chef Donald Link (Cochon & Herbsaint) serves cochon du lait & other bizarre foods of Louisiana, paired with a selection of outstanding Rhone Valley wines.

WOW! Women on Wine: Hear from some of the world's leading women winemakers, and experience the culinary styles of two of New Orleans's leading ladies, James Beard Award Winning Chef: Susan Spicer (Bayona) and 2008 Food & Wine, Best New Chef: Sue Zemanick (Gautreau's.)

Farm Fresh with Chef John Besh: John will be joined by the Executive Chef of La Provence, Randy Lewis. They will show you how to go green with ingredients that are freshly picked from his sustainable garden, and you will hear from leading experts on the latest in organic winemaking trends.

Bubbles & Bites: We'll pop the cork on some fabulous Champagnes, while Ian Schnoeblen, Executive Chef/Co-Owner of Iris, and one of Food and Wine's 10 Best American Chefs for 2007, tempts your taste buds! Moderated by: Ziggy "The Wine Gal" Eschliman


Table for Two, S'il Vous Plait: Local expert foodie, Tom Fitzmorris, will explore the hot trend of Bistro French cuisine with four favorite local chefs, while you savor fantastic French wines.


Boot to Boot: Taste trailblazing wines from the Italian boot, while an up-and-coming chef from our own boot offers up a taste of Italian cuisine. Moderated by: Antonio Molesini, Italian Fine Wine Specialist, Republic National Distributing Company.

Grand Tastings

Louisiana Superdome, Sugar Bowl Drive, New Orleans--$89 per person in advance, $100 at the gate. Enter at GATE A on Poydras Street. Regular tickets are sold for one session only.

A truly "Grand" experience for both foodies and wine connoisseurs, pairing extensive offerings from New Orleans' finest chefs and selections of wines from around the world. 75 Chefs and 1000 Vintages are accompanied by some of Louisiana's best musicians, decor that showcases the local flavor, and new, exciting festivities!

Also featuring the "Discover Wine with Robert Mondavi" tour: Featuring wines from Robert Mondavi Private Selection and Robert Mondavi Winery portfolios, the tour provides an interactive experience that educates visitors about food, wine and entertaining. Between the essence bar and tasting stations, and the informative and friendly hosts, you'll leave the Discover Wine experience with a greater sense of knowledge and confidence.

The New Orleans Wine & Food Experience is a non-profit organization. The Board of the New Orleans Wine & Food Experience has announced that ten local organizations have received donations totaling $125,000 to support their programs and foundations. Proceeds from the 2008 event benefited the Louisiana Restaurant Association's ProStart Program, The University of New Orleans School of Hotel, Restaurant & Tourism, The Chef John Folse Culinary Institute, Delgado Community College Culinary Arts Program, New Orleans Firefighter House Fund, Sean Payton’s Play It Forward, Girls First, Cancer Crusaders, Animal Rescue New Orleans, and Fore! Kids.
