Chateau/Producer: | Chateau des Finnes Roches | Wine Name: | Chateauneuf du Pape | Wine Score: | 83 | Notes: | This wine was tasted over a two-day period and from the first sip to the last, was profoundly uninspiring. I'm not sure exactly what I expected with a $15 bottle of CdP from Nicolas, but even with modest expectations I found this to be a disappointment. The bouquet of creamy dark fruit was enticing (though no oak or cedar, old or new was present) but the wine was very unbalanced, with tannins heading for the hills faster than a VW bus full of golden-ticketed archeology grad students enroute to a Phish concert. The wine's bitterness brought back memories of an elementary school crush I once had, when I finally gathered the courage to ask for my fantasy maiden's telephone number, I later discovered it was the request line for a local radio station. In short, my interest in this wine lasted even less than my elementary, illusionary romance, with an equally unfulfilling ending. | Tasting Date: | 2003-04-09 |
