Notes
-----
This is a wine I've seen sitting on a few shelves in
magnums+. It was cheap even for the quantity and the Banfi
name made me wonder whether it was good. I've had very good
experience with other Banfi wines. When I found a single
bottle at $8, I decided to try it, again... not quite sure
what I expected. This is a blend of Sangiovese & Cabernet,
"from the most rocky and impervious slopes of the Banfi
estate in Montalcino...". I wasn't sure whether I wanted to
drink this wine, or take it with me on a Nissan SUV
commercial. How exactly do you cultivate grapes on an
"impervious" slope? Anyway... This is one of those wines
that if you follow almost any other type, people respond,
"This is different." Which is usually accompanies
thereafter by, "Can I have some more of that *other* wine?"
The bouquet was a melange of black currant, cracked black
pepper and spiced beets; three great tastes that I'm not
sure go great together but I wasn't trying this with peanut
butter cups so what do I know? The wine is nicely balanced,
overly fruity and clearly showing its youth. I don't have
enough experience to discern if age will be good to this or
its simply cheap wine made from the leftovers of better wine
and dumped on the market. I have a feeling that paired with
the right food, this wine would outshine higher-ranked
wines, but isn't a wine to enjoy on its own.
