Chateau/Producer: | Cecchi | Wine Name: | Spargolo | Country: | Italy | State: | Castellina, Chianti | AOC: | Capitolare Di Cardisco | Region: | Capitolari | Wine Score: | 90+ | Notes: | Garnet to slight pink at the edges; medium bodied, with a nose of candied plums, menthol & spearmint leaves and just a hint of straw. This is a very tangy and extracted wine bursting with flavor and a beautiful balance. Clearly medium-bodied, this is atypically powerful in flavor for its weight. I suspect the grape content is something indigenous to the region but not a common grape. I'll have to investigate further. | Tasting Date: | 2004-06-22 | Production Notes: | This elegant wine is made with hand-picked scrupulously selected grapes from the Cecci family's own Spargolo vinyard in Castellina in Chianti. After a gentle pressing and natural fermentation, the wine is aged for 24 months, 18 in large oak casks, and six in small barriques for extra complexity.
The bottles are laid down in the Cecchi family's cool cellar for at least 6 months. | Price US$: | 40.00 |
