Chateau/Producer: | Jackson-Triggs | Wine Name: | Proprieter's Reserve Vidal Eiswein | Country: | Canada | State: | Ontario | AOC: | VQA Niagara Peninsula | Region: | Niagara Peninsula | Wine Score: | 94 | Notes: | This is a true icewine (made from grapes frozen naturally on the vine by frost), and I got it in a 187ml bottle. This is approximately a quarter of a regular-sized bottle--quite tiny. But it's a very sweet wine and a little goes a long way...and it's not cheap, so a smaller bottle makes a smaller dent on your wallet.
I enjoyed this wine a lot. The color is a pale yellow, a bit darker than straw. The scent is very fragrant, almost floral in character, but fruity and sweet. The wine itself was very nice--very sweet, with lots of citrusy fruit flavors such as dried pineapple and apricot. (Our host suggested hints of pear and butter.) There's also a hint of acid that balances out the sweetness. It is not particularly thick or syrupy in texture.
I found this wine to be very tasty. It lacks some of the complex richness of the Trockenbeerenauslese--still my favorite--but it is delicious in its own right. | Tasting Date: | 2004-08-09 | Varietal: | Vidal | Price US$: | 19.99 | Source: | Marcello's, Baton Rouge |
