WINE =======: 1999 Vignal Labrie Monbazillac AOC : Appell ation Monbazillac Controllee Tasting Date: 2004-08-13 Varietal : Semillon, Muscadelle, Sauvignon Blan Score : 82 Country : France State : Gironde Region : Gironde Notes ----- This was an interesting wine...it's apparently an established type of French sweet white wine, supposedly like a less sweet sauterne. I didn't find it very sweet, but it was definitely more sweet than dry. It had a nice balance of acid and sweetness, good fruit, slightly citrusy, leaning mostly to apricot flavors. The label suggests honey, but if it was there it was pretty subtle. It had a lovely color, a slightly pale yellow, basically Swarovski's Light Topaz but a shade paler. It had a pleasant scent, sweetish and fruity with apricot. It was enjoyable, but I'm not sure it was $22 worth of enjoyable. I wonder if this is typical of Monbazillacs, or if this is a lower-end representative. Production Notes ---------------- 65% Semillon, 25% Muscadelle, 10% Sauvignon Blanc.
