Chateau/Producer: | Vignal Labrie | Wine Name: | Monbazillac | Country: | France | State: | Gironde | AOC: | Appell ation Monbazillac Controllee | Region: | Gironde | Wine Score: | 82 | Notes: | This was an interesting wine...it's apparently an established type of French sweet white wine, supposedly like a less sweet sauterne. I didn't find it very sweet, but it was definitely more sweet than dry. It had a nice balance of acid and sweetness, good fruit, slightly citrusy, leaning mostly to apricot flavors. The label suggests honey, but if it was there it was pretty subtle. It had a lovely color, a slightly pale yellow, basically Swarovski's Light Topaz but a shade paler. It had a pleasant scent, sweetish and fruity with apricot. It was enjoyable, but I'm not sure it was $22 worth of enjoyable. I wonder if this is typical of Monbazillacs, or if this is a lower-end representative. | Tasting Date: | 2004-08-13 | Varietal: | Semillon, Muscadelle, Sauvignon Blan | Production Notes: | 65% Semillon, 25% Muscadelle, 10% Sauvignon Blanc. | Price US$: | 21.95 | Source: | Calandro's (Perkins), Baton Rouge, LA |
