But the wine is not plain and simple. Its color is a very dark ruby red, clear, with long legs. The nose is very pleasant, but misleading; it doesn't convey the complexities of the taste. The aroma is rich with dark fruits, like blackberry and plums. The wine has a very pleasant, long finish. It's very rich and somewhat fruity, with a lot of complexity and exceptional balance. Tannins are medium-strong, so this becomes smoother with a good chance to breathe, and the wine should age well, but it's still very tasty right now. It's very unusual, almost Burgundian in style, with the flavor of jammy fruits, full-bodied, dense and chewy, with a mineral quality and a touch of earthiness. I have a weakness for CDPs, and this complex yet balanced wine is an excellent example of why. | Tasting Date: | 2004-11-14 | Varietal: | Mourvèdre 30%, Grenache 30%, Syrah 10%, etc. | Production Notes: | This wine contains all thirteen grape varieties of the Ch | Price US$: | 75.00 |
