Chateau/Producer: | Louis Jadot | Wine Name: | Beaujolais-Villages | Country: | France | State: | Burgundy | AOC: | Beaujolais-Villages | Region: | Beaujolais | Wine Score: | 85 | Notes: | This is a nice, light drinking red. The color is a dark ruby, almost purple, moving towards brick-pink along the edges. The nose is a very light, almost undetectable, whiff of red fruits. The wine has basically no tannins, which accounts for the need to drink it on the young side. It's on the acidic side, but that's more refreshing than bothersome. The main flavors are red fruits--raspberry, cherries, strawberry, currants. It's a good wine for warm weather or food like poultry, when you don't want a white--I had this one with Thanksgiving dinner, and it matched very nicely. This was my first taste of Beaujolais besides the Nouveau; it seems worthy of further exploration, but I don't think it's destined to become my favorite. | Tasting Date: | 2004-11-25 | Varietal: | Gamay | Production Notes: | Beaujolais-Villages is the designation for wines made from grapes grown outside the 9 or so specifically-named villages of Beaujolais, which each get their own designation. Grapes for this type are grown within the Beaujolais area, but in villages which are not given their own cru designation. This means it's likely to be a step below those cru villages, but on the other hand, since it comes from a larger area, it may tend to even out some of the rough spots highlighted by the smaller areas. | Price US$: | 16.49 | Source: | Calandro's on Perkins, Baton Rouge |
