Chateau/Producer: | Miner | Wine Name: | Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon | Country: | USA | State: | California | AOC: | Napa Valley | Region: | Oakville | Wine Score: | 86 | Notes: | Beet red in color with just the slightest traces of age; nose of tar covered earth, astringents & bitters. Taste has more of a Merlot/bitter quality than Cabernet, nice amount of tannins and a decent finish but something seems wrong with this wine. There seems to be some plum character but it's overwhelmed by acidity and earthly petroleum. This wine could be considered quite complex, or mishandled -- it's really hard to tell, and since the verdict is out, I'd rule in favor of it being yet another wine that represents just how bad the 2000 Napa Cabernet vintage is. I wish I had other vintages of this wine for comparison but since I do not, I can't say I'm impressed. There is too much of an un-wine-like character that is completely unexpected in a relatively expensive Napa Cabernet. | Tasting Date: | 2004-12-04 | Price US$: | 43.99 | Source: | Elio's |
