Chateau/Producer: | Bodegas Toro Albala | Wine Name: | Don PX Pedro Ximenez Vino Dulce de Postre | Country: | Spain | State: | Cordoba | AOC: | Montilla-Moriles | Region: | Montilla-Moriles | Wine Score: | 93 | Notes: | The color is a very dark amber, a sort of tobacco brown. The nose is very distinctive, with a strong, rich scent of prunes and brown sugar. The taste is amazing...dark brown sugar, molasses, that hint of prunes suggested by the nose, enough zing of acidity to prevent it being cloying, with a rich, lingering finish. (And to be clear, prunes aren't a big favorite of mine, but somehow the flavor mixes beautifully with the sweetness.) It has a lovely, unctuous mouth feel, and exactly the right amount of alcohol--just enough to give it a bit of burn without overpowering the flavor. I am really impressed with how delicious this is at this price. I need to immediately go grab a few more bottles. I swear, it tastes just like drinkable, alcoholic cane syrup (and in case you can't tell, that's a very good thing). | Tasting Date: | 2005-04-08 | Varietal: | Pedro Ximenez | Price US$: | 13.79 | Source: | Calandro's (Perkins), Baton Rouge, LA |
