WINE =======: 1998 San Felice Vin Santo del Chianti Classico AOC : Vin Santo Tasting Date: 2005-05-05 Varietal : Trebbiano, Malvasia Score : 85 Country : Italy State : Tuscany Region : Siena Notes ----- I believe that this was a good example of a Vin Santo, but tasting this confirmed for me that I don't really care too much for Vin Santo. For a dessert wine, I want something sweeter. Its color was pale gold, and it had a wonderful nose of strong honey, with brown sugar, and a hint of peach. I found that the burn of alcohol masked the more subtle flavors, and I definitely wanted more sweetness than there was--though that has been my experience so far with these wines, so that's more my preference than any sort of flaw. The price listed is for a half-bottle. Production Notes ---------------- Trebbiano 75%, Malvasia 25%. The grapes are picked and left to dry on matting called paglie (straw mats) and are then squeezed in December or January. The grape must ferments and is refined for 5 years in caratelli, small barrels of 225 litres. Output generated by La Wine Club - http://LaWineClub.com/ =================
