Chateau/Producer: | Vinum Cellars | Wine Name: | Late Harvest Gewurtztraminer | Country: | USA | State: | California | AOC: | San Benito County AVA | Region: | San Benito County | Wine Score: | 88 | Notes: | The color is a pretty, slightly pale golden yellow. The nose is rich, sweet, and spicy, like a pineapple boiled up in a crawfish boil. (Mmm, and that is good!) It has scents like pineapple, brandied apricot, and a slight peppery tone...maybe white pepper? The flavor is very nice, sweet and spicy, with a pleasantly rich mouth feel. This wine is sweet, but not super-sticky-sweet. Still, it has a complexity that makes me like it anyway! The flavor has a slight bitter tang, but not unpleasant. After drinking it a while, it hit me what it reminded me of...pineapple that's a day or two past its freshness date, so that it's beginning to ferment a little bit. It's a bit like Gewurztraminer on steriods--extra gewurztraminervergnugen! | Tasting Date: | 2005-07-03 | Varietal: | Gewurztraminer | Production Notes: | The grapes for this wine come from Vista Verde Vineyard just north of the pinnacles in San Benito County. We harvested in early November when the grapes were golden and sweet @ 34 brix. The long barrel fermentation developed intense pure Gew | Price US$: | 19.99 | Source: | Calandro's (Perkins), Baton Rouge, LA |
