WINE =======: 2003 Tobin James Liquid Love Late-Harvest Zinfandel AOC : Paso Robles Tasting Date: 2005-08-09 Varietal : Zinfandel Score : 87 Country : USA State : California Region : Paso Robles Notes ----- The color of this wine is a lovely dark, deep garnet--with the light behind it, a perfect clear ruby red. The nose is medium-to-light, with a delicious blueberry jam smell. The flavor is interesting...not super-sweet, a bit overpowered by the heat of alcohol, sort of the taste of the blueberry syrup at IHOP, but less sweet, and with an odd bitterness. The finish lasts rather long. After a night in the frig, it lost some of its bitter qualities. What does it taste like now? First imagine some blueberries. Now imagine that you are somehow able to roast these blueberries. That's what it tastes like--roasted blueberries. Not that I've ever roasted a blueberry; seems like it would be awful hard to keep them on the grill. I'm not sure how I feel about this wine...it doesn't have the usual weirdness of a red dessert wine, but it's got its own special variety. I wonder how it will do with age.
