WINE =======: 1985 Montelena Estate Cabernet Sauvignon AOC : Napa Valley Tasting Date: 2004-10-22 Varietal : Cabernet Score : 89 Country : USA State : CA Region : Calistoga Notes ----- Light red in color with watery pink edges; nose of plum jelly, sugary sweet with loads of black pepper and a touch of black currant and eucalyptus. This wine was extremely tannic. It's obvious that many of the tannins in this wine are not softening with age. Very complex nose, noticeable finish, but the taste is astringent. This wine is past its time. Production Notes ---------------- No late winter rains resulted in earl bud-break which was followed by a long moderate growing season. Dry, cool fall weather during crush led to a long harvest. The fruit was excellent, with outstanding balance. Harvest: Spt 10-Oct 9; Bottling Date, May 1988 (10,000 cases); release date: Sept 1989 Additional Notes ---------------- This was part of a ten-year vertical tasting at the California Grill, Contemporary Resort, Walt Disney World in association with Chateau Montelena and the Epcot Food and Wine Festival, 2005.
