WINE =======: 1999 Montelena Estate Cabernet Sauvignon AOC : Napa Valley Tasting Date: 2005-10-22 Varietal : Cabernet Score : 94 Country : USA State : CA Region : Calistoga Notes ----- Purple-red color showing minimum signs of age; nose of lots of tar, smoke, earthy spices, menthol; very tannic, no dominant presence of fruit but it's obviously in the background; very big finish. A very good wine. Production Notes ---------------- The 1999 growing season was dominated by cool weather, then the last week of September really warmed up and we were able to allow the fruit to attain maximum maturity and ripeness before picking. Becasue we had a very small crop, the cool year and excellent ripening weather combined for optimal conditions. Harvest: Sep 30-Oct 18; Bottled: Aug 2001 (6,500 Cases); Released: March 2003 Additional Notes ---------------- This was part of a ten-year (85,89,90,95,96,97,99,00,01,02) vertical tasting at the California Grill, Contemporary Resort, Walt Disney World in association with Chateau Montelena and the Epcot Food and Wine Festival, 2005. Reviewer Note: This vertical was tasted in chronological order (from oldest to most recent vintage) at the request of the hosts, which included representatives from Chateau Montelena.
