WINE =======: 1999 Puy St George AOC : St. George St. Emilion Tasting Date: 2005-11-07 Score : 90 Country : France Region : St. Emilion Notes ----- Ruby in color with pink edges; nose of tar and roses (that should be a song by some goth group), smoke, plum and a hint of butterscotch; medium-bodied with a very lovely mouthfeel and a beautiful balance, wonderfully-integrated yet firm tannins and bursting with flavor. Not a particularly impressive finish, but that notwithstanding, very drinkable. This is IMO a prototypical Bordeaux wine with unique character and complexity. It's not a world-class wine by any means, but it demonstrates how superior the French can be at making even average vintages and yields into wines that are way above average. This is a wine that creeps up on you - do not let first impressions sway you too much. Production Notes ---------------- This wine is made using the most modern vinification techniques and aged for 18 to 20 months in new oak barrels.
