WINE =======: 1985 Antinori Solaia Tasting Date: 2005-12-24 Varietal : Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Sangiovese Score : 95 Country : Italy State : Tuscany Region : Chianti Notes ----- The color is a deep, dark garnet, with a hint of brickiness, especially around the edges. It has a rich, heady scent, of red fruits, raspberry, currant, and plum. The flavor is very nice, very extrcted, fruity but complex, with a light minerally quality. It's very very smooth, with a pleasant, subtle finish. This was very tasty, with virtually no signs of age. Production Notes ---------------- 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc and 20% Sangiovese. Solaia, or "sunny one", is a magnificent 25 acre patch of southwest-facing vineyard planted 1,150-1,300 feet above sea level on stony, calcareous marl. Located at Santa Cristina in the Mercatale Val di Pesa zone of Chianti Classico, the plot is contiguous to Antinori's Tignanello vineyard. Antinori first produced this single vineyard wine in 1978.
