WINE =======: 2001 Zenato Ripasso Valpolicella Superiore AOC : DOC Tasting Date: 2005-10-15 Varietal : Corvina Veronese, Rondinella, San Score : 87 Country : Italy State : Veneto Region : Valpolicella; Classico area of Sant’Ambrogio Notes ----- The color is a lovely dark beet red. The nose is a nice, fruity scent with raspberry, mint, leather, and a light medicinal smell, like Vicks Vap-O-Rub or mimeograph fluid. The flavor is good, full and fruity, but not too flashy, with a hint of bitterness from the Amarone. Production Notes ---------------- 80% Corvina Veronese, 10% Rondinella, 10% Sangiovese. The production of this wine is strictly related to that of Amarone: after Amarone is finished fermenting, the pomace of the dried grapes used to produce it is joined with the Valpolicella fermented just after the October harvest. This second fermentation raises the alcohol and gives the wine deeper colour, richer body and aromas. After bottle-ageing, it is ready to be enjoyed.
