Chateau/Producer: | Black Castle | Wine Name: | Bull's Blood Bikaver | Country: | Hungary | Region: | Szeksard | Wine Score: | 88 | Notes: | The color of this wine is dark beet-red. (Is it the color of bull's blood? I'm fresh out at the moment.) The nose is quite subtle, with scents of red fruits. The flavor of the wine is very fruity, cherry and berry, with no noticeable tannins and a good level of acidity to liven it up. There's a bit of cherry Jolly Rancher taste as well. This is a very easy-drinking wine; it goes down smooth and has lots of good flavor. It's not as complex as some wines, but it's a great wine to enjoy with food. I recommend it. | Tasting Date: | 2006-01-28 | Varietal: | Cabernet Sauv, Cab Franc, Merlot, Kekfrancos | Production Notes: | This label was founded by a Baton Rouge obstetrician/gynecologist whose father-in-law left Hungary in 1957. After many years of travel in his wife's ancestral country, Dr. Schwartzenburg purchased a vineyard in Hungary and planted it with new vines, which will produce wine in 2008. Not wanting to delay the introduction of Hungarian wines, he befriended many winemakers and decided to begin importing from these vineyards under his label, Black Castle Wines. After searching far and wide throughout all of the famed wine regions of Hungary, he has selected the best varieties from the best vineyards. | Price US$: | 9.49 | Source: | Calandro's, Perkins, Baton Rouge |
