1989 Lafite-Rothschild [Pauillac]
[Bordeaux/Meritage-style blend]

Chateau/Producer:Lafite-Rothschild
Wine Score:90
Notes:Creamy apricot, quintessential Lafitte. Prototypical Lafitte. However, not inspirational. This is an exceptional wine but not a contender with the 1986, and a mere of shadow of the 1989 Haut Brion. A very good, solid Lafitte but nothing inspirational. Robert Parker was generous in his characterization that this wine was closed with the tannin elevated. I would say the wine is open, the tannins have bloomed and are not capable of elevating
themselves byond the quitessentially Lafite dark fruit flavor. This is a wine that promises
more but does not deliver, but in the tradition of Lafite, it puts to shame most competitors.
Don't get me wrong - this is a brilliant wine, but it is far from a good example of how fine Lafite can be.
