1979 Joseph Phelps Insignia[California]
[Bordeaux/Meritage-style blend]
Posted by Mike P. on 2004-03-07 07:55:00 [Show TN in Text Format]
Chateau/Producer:Joseph Phelps
Wine Name:Insignia
Region:Napa Valley
Wine Score:91
Notes:Pink-to-blood color with amber traces, nuances of red meat, glycerine, medium bodied, hard tannins, alcoholic taste, fleshy and substantive finish. Completely different style than all the other vintages and likely past its prime if not evocative of questionable storage conditions.

I was basically thrown off by going for the earliest vintage first. However, it became obvious after completing the flight that Phelps is emphisizing the improved quality and style in their newer wines.
Tasting Date:2003-11-20
Varietal:Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc
Additional Notes:This is from a special Insignia vertical wine tasting at Disneyworld/Epcot during their "Food and Wine Experience".
