Chateau/Producer: | Joseph Phelps | Wine Name: | Insignia | Region: | Napa Valley | Wine Score: | 90 | Notes: | Beet red-dark in color; nuance of black currants, slightly diluted, medium-light bodied, very dusty tannins that seem to decay rapidly. It's a toss up as to whether this wine is a flop, or merely in a dumb phase - it reminded me of the magnum of 97 Montelena Estate I tried that didn't seem ready for prime time, but this wine could simply be over with. The hosts seem to think this is one of the greats of the flight - I totally disagreed, as did most everyone else.
Considering Parker wrote in 97 that the 95 was as profound as the 94, maybe the wine is in a dumb phase? It didn't hold a candle to the 94 IMO but maybe I got a bad bottle? | Tasting Date: | 2003-11-20 | Varietal: | Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc | Additional Notes: | This is from a special Insignia vertical wine tasting at Disneyworld/Epcot during their "Food and Wine Experience". | Source: | Joseph Phelps Vertical Tasting |
