Chateau/Producer:Joseph Phelps
Wine Name:Insignia
Country:USA
State:California
AOC:Napa Valley
Region:Stag's Leap and Rutherford
Wine Score:94
Notes:The color of this wine is a lovely garnet red, turning slightly beetish at the edges. The nose is very smooth and velvety, with a dark fruit scent--dark cherry, cassis. The flavor is also velvety and smooth, with a nice finish. It begins with noticeable tannins, fading as it breathes, with a flavor of cherry, hints of violet and tobacco, and good acidity. As the tannins dissipated, it became truly wonderful. After an hour or so, the nose turns to caramel, with a hint of fig, and fig flavors also develop.
Tasting Date:2005-07-18

Production Notes:78% Cabernet Sauvignon and 22% Merlot, primarily from estate-owned vineyards in Stag's Leap and Rutherford, with additional fruit coming from independent growers in Rutherford, Carneros and Coombsville.
