Notes

Light purple color with watermelon edges; nose of subdued
fruit hiding underneath menthol, gravel and subtle hints of
tar; nicely balanced and "bright", medium-bodied with
notable signs of soft, mellowing tannins that demonstrate
Montelena has begun to develop more finnessed wines with
integrated tannins.

Production Notes
----------------
We had the earliest bud break since 1988 yet a cool April,
May and June resulted in a delayed growing season. This was
followed by truly miraculous ripening weather. The moderate
heat during this prolonged period resulted in excellent
richness and fruit content. A classical, old-world type
vintage. Harvest: Sep 28-Oct 29; Bottled: Aug 1997 (11,000
cases); Released: March 1999

This was part of a ten-year (85,89,90,95,96,97,99,00,01,02) vertical
tasting at the California Grill, Contemporary Resort, Walt Disney World in
association with Chateau Montelena and the Epcot Food and Wine Festival,
2005.
