At a wine show in Sydney, Australia, judges sampled 2161 different wines and kept track of the types of closures and incidence of cork taint (contamination with TCA).

Of the wines closed with cork rather than screwcaps or sythetic cork, almost 8.5% were affected by cork taint. More white wines (9.68%) were affected than red (7.86%). These numbers were interesting, because most estimates of the percentage of wine spoiled by cork taint have been just that--pure educated guesses.
