Cork Taint Affects 8% of Wine, Judges Find

At a wine show in Sydney, Australia, judges sampled 2161 different wines and kept track of the types of closures and incidence of cork taint (contamination with TCA). |
Of the wines closed with cork rather than screwcaps or sythetic cork, almost 8.5% were affected by cork taint. More white wines (9.68%) were affected than red (7.86%). These numbers were interesting, because most estimates of the percentage of wine spoiled by cork taint have been just that--pure educated guesses. | Source. | |
