Virginia Madsen Likes Wine

| Oh, I know what you're thinking...this is news? Why shouldn't Virginia Madsen, the actress who wowed everyone with her portrayal of Maya in the wine-themed movie Sideways, like wine? |
No reason, except that in his interviews, the star of Sideways, Paul Giamatti, emphatically states that he isn't a wine connoisseur and didn't learn anything about wine while making the movie. He may be joking to deal with the constant repetition of the same obvious question, but that's what he says. I haven't heard anything on the subject from his costar, Thomas Hayden Church, or the other female lead in the movie, played by Sandra Oh.
So it's really kind of nice and reaffirming to read this simple little story in the NY Times detailing a night out by Virginia Madsen, enjoying some fine tastings of Pinot noir, sampling some gourmet chocolate, and proceeding on to a fine restaurant. At least somebody is leading the life that a character in the movie would lead if they had the opportunity.
She even tells a story about being fooled by a restaurant that accidentally served them a Merlot from Malibu, instead of the Pinot they ordered...and, horror of horrors, they were enjoying it! How funny that they even reflect a bit of the movie's wine snobbery, but with a tale that shows they're not afraid to laugh at themselves...which makes them the polar opposite of wine snobs.
Plus, guys, it seems she's still single! |
