NZ Winery Offers Gay Wine

| When you're in the mood to experiment, perhaps you'd like to try "Pansy!"--the new wine marketed to gays. It's a rosé! |
Though it sounds strange (and it is), the wine, made by Kim Crawford Wines of New Zealand, was intended as a "thank-you" to the Sydney, Australia, gay community, which supported Crawford Wines when it went through a rough spot recently. In particular, Pansy! seems to have been inspired by Auckland drag queen Onya Knees, a personal friend of Crawford, who is accompanying the wine on its introductory tour.
The wine is reported to be a rather sweet rosé, made from merlot, with a touch of malbec and cabernet franc. The marketing concept is perhaps not a bad idea, considering that is estimated that Sydney's gay community buys approximately $4.5 million worth of wine a month. |
