Canadian acting legend Dan Aykroyd and Diamond Estates Wines & Spirits will launch a new line of Dan Aykroyd-labeled wines in 2007, announced Murray Marshall, President & CEO of Diamond Estates Wines & Spirits Ltd.

Less than one year after announcing his $1 million investment into the four wineries owned by Diamond Estates – Lakeview Cellars, EastDell Estates, Birchwood Estates and Thomas & Vaughan – Aykroyd will further solidify his position in the Canadian wine business by launching two ranges of Canadian wines, the Dan Aykroyd Signature Reserve Series of super-premium offerings and the Dan Aykroyd Discovery Series of mid-priced wines.

The first wine to be released under the Dan Aykroyd label will be his Signature Reserve VQA Niagara Peninsula Vidal Icewine 2005, which will be available in 2007.

“Canadian Icewine is known internationally for its uniqueness and excellence. Launching my premium line of wines with this Canadian icon could not be more fitting,” commented Aykroyd. “I am excited to report that every bottle of Dan Aykroyd Signature Reserve VQA Vidal Icewine 2005 has been allocated for sale to our key clientele and has been fully subscribed before even being released, which is a testament to the great winemaking team at Lakeview Cellars who are working with me on this.”

The Dan Aykroyd Signature Reserve VQA Vidal Icewine 2005 is made from 100% Vidal grapes harvested from select vineyards in the Niagara Peninsula. Unlike most Icewines, the Aykroyd Vidal Icewine is fermented and aged in French oak barrels, which add additional complexity and subtle oak character to its floral honeyed apricot notes and mouth-filling structure.

Tom Green, head winemaker at the award-winning Lakeview Cellars in Vineland, and his team will craft all of the Signature Reserve and Discovery Series VQA wines.

Aykroyd developed his love of fine wine while working on Saturday Night Live and the first Blues Brothers movie. Musician Steve Cropper introduced him to Bordeaux Premier Cru and other premium vintages and, ever since, he has sampled the top local wines wherever he travels. This passion, combined with a desire to promote Canada as a wine-producing nation, has inspired both Aykroyd’s investment into Diamond Estates and his plan to share Canadian wines with the world.

Wine lovers will be able to get their hands on limited quantities of the Dan Aykroyd Signature Reserve VQA Vidal Icewine 2005 in early 2007 through Lakeview Cellars winery.

Aykroyd will be in his home province to help kick off the annual Niagara Wine Festival as keynote speaker at the Grape Growers of Ontario’s 23rd Scotiabank Celebrity Luncheon on September 20, 2006.

The Dan Aykroyd Signature Reserve and Discovery Series wines will be distributed by Diamond Estates Wines & Spirits, recent winner of the LCBO’s 2006 ‘Elsie’ award for Agent of the Year. Along with award-winning wines from Lakeview Cellars, EastDell Estates, Birchwood Estates and Thomas & Vaughan, Diamond Estates represents a broad range of premium domestic and imported wines and spirits.
