Pontchartrain Vineyards' "Jazz'n the Vines" 2006 Concert Series will come to a graceful conclusion on Saturday, Oct. 28th, with the heavenly sounds of Banu Gibson and her Quarter.

Today, Banu Gibson stands virtually at the top of her field. A superior and swinging jazz singer, Banu is one of the few vocalists of her generation to maintain exclusive loyalty to songs of the 1920’s, 30’s, and 40’s. Rather than mimic singers of the past, she mixes fresh renditions of Tin Pan Alley standards and jazz classics by Gershwin, Ellington, Berlin, Carmichael, Waller, Porter, et. al. A powerful force on stage as well as on her CDs on the Swing Out label, her enthusiasm and showmanship are highlighted by her wide range and versatility.

She has appeared on Garrison Keillor’s "A Prairie Home Companion," with symphony orchestras, jazz festivals, clubs, and jazz parties on television’s Entertainment Tonight, PBS’s Jazz From New Orleans, Joan Lunden’s Everyday, toured Europe, and toured Japan as the featured vocalist with The World’s Greatest Jazz Band. Banu is also highlighted in the first chapter of Charles Kuralt’s book Charles Kuralt’s America.

With an extensive repertoire of songs, Banu’s performances covers many high points of American’s golden age of popular music. She is consistently inventing fresh and imaginative variations giving new life to timeless, unforgettable music.

The community is invited to bring a blanket or spread, chairs, umbrella, picnic fare, flashlight, and a thirst for fine wine and music in a magnificent vineyard setting. There will be a $10.00/person entrance fee. Pontchartrain Vineyards’ wine and food will be available for purchase. (No pets, outside wines, beer or liquor, please.). The concert begins at 6:30, with gates opening at 5:30.

Pontchartrain Vineyards is located at 81250 Hwy. 1082 (Old Military Road), 6.5 miles from its juncture with Hwy. 21 (Military Road), just North of Covington, Louisiana. For more information or directions call John or Susan Seago (985) 892-9742 or visit www.pontchartrainvineyards.com.
