 With each year, the New Orleans Wine and Food Experience (NOWFE) gets a little bit better. The 2006 session was overshadowed by the recent assault of Katrina, and though it went very well indeed, everyone was wondering...would it be as good as in years past? It was. This year, almost two full years PK (post Katrina), though parts of the city are still decimated, the NOWFE is all about forgetting the setbacks and celebrating the recovery...the parts of the city where visitors go are pretty much back to normal, even if the population is down and some areas are still ghost towns with the occasional FEMA trailer. The restaurants are, for the most part, back up and running full steam. Even the beloved Camellia Grill finally re-opened, exactly the same as before (that's a good thing). |

Introducing "Spirits 101"
Starting in May, Martin's will offer the first of six monthly Spirits Beginners’ Classes. Everyone from the Spirits Connoisseur to the Spirits Novice can come learn the A to Z’s about Tequila, Rum, Vodka, Gin, Bourbon, Scotch, Irish Whisky, and Cognac. Beginning with Tequila, these specifically designed seminars will take you through the complete distillation process and present examples of all the major expressions of that particular spirit. Each session will have limited seating and be treated as a separate and distinct seminar, which will allow everyone to choose the topics which are of interest to them. The "Spirits 101" seminars will cost $22 per person and take place on Friday evenings from 6:30 to 8PM at our Metairie location.  If you don't live in New Orleans, it's time to start planning your trip for the 2007 New Orleans Wine and Food Experience. This five-day event focusing on wine and New Orleans food takes place over Memorial Day weekend, and it's always a memorable event (unless you have too much wine). Much of New Orleans may still be struggling, but the great restaurants and hotels are up and running at full steam--if you don't leave the tourist areas, you'll never know there was a problem.
More than 15,000 glasses of wine will be poured from 1,000 different bottles produced by more than 200 winemakers at the 2007 NOWFE. The event will present its most ambitious schedule of events yet May 23-27, featuring world-class wineries from around the globe and New Orleans top culinary artisans.
“We intend for the 16th annual event to be a celebration of wine and food, as well as a salute to our city’s triumphs over the past 16 months,” said Mark Needham, 2007 NOWFE board president. |
